Independent notes on changing the work you do

A note on a considered transition

What does the new commute actually consume?

Use your travel days, round-trip distance, time and actual cost assumptions. See annual time and cash without publishing a made-up mileage rate.

Your inputs stay in this page. Do not enter names, private employer information or confidential records. Use your own USD assumptions and consistent periods; no market defaults are supplied.

    Model boundary

Travel days = entered days/week × working weeks. Annual distance = travel days × round-trip miles/day. Annual hours = travel days × round-trip minutes/day ÷ 60. Annual vehicle/parking cost = travel days × (round-trip miles × your cost/mile + parking/tolls). Monthly cost is annual cost ÷ 12, a smoothed average. No IRS deduction rate, tax relief, fuel price, hybrid attendance policy or travel speed is assumed. Include appropriate actual costs without counting parking twice. Public transit, variable routes and any time value need a separate comparison. A lower travel cost does not establish that an offer is better.
